Questions we get often

Is WinMacro really free?

Yes. WinMacro is freeware for both personal and commercial use. There is no trial period, no feature-limited edition, and no paid upgrade.

Does it need to be installed?

No. WinMacro is a single executable. Save it anywhere — your desktop, a network share, a USB stick — and double-click to run. Nothing is written to the registry, and removing it is a matter of deleting the file.

Why does my antivirus flag it?

Macro recorders read keyboard and mouse input by design, and some scanners flag that behaviour heuristically regardless of the program's intent. WinMacro contains no payload, makes no network connections, and writes no files unless you ask it to. If your scanner quarantines it, add an exception for WinMacro.exe. Always download it from this site rather than from a mirror, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Can I run a macro on a computer that doesn't have WinMacro?

Yes. Use the compile option to export the recording as a standalone .exe. It runs on its own and needs no runtime or dependencies.

Will it work with games?

Sometimes. Games that read raw input directly, or that run an anti-cheat driver, will often ignore or block simulated input. WinMacro is built for desktop applications, and we do not recommend or support using it to gain an advantage in online games.

Is there a version for macOS or Linux?

No. WinMacro is a native Windows application and there is no macOS or Linux build. It has been reported to work under Wine and in Windows virtual machines, though neither configuration is officially supported.

How do I stop a macro that is looping?

Press the play hotkey again (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+P by default) to halt playback immediately. The hotkey works even while the macro is moving the cursor.

Does WinMacro collect any data?

None. The program has no analytics, no update checker, and no network code of any kind. See our privacy policy for the full statement.
